One of Akron’s hidden treasures. A fun local zoo with a nice selection of animals. It’s also nice to be able to get closer than most other zoos. The zoo is clean and the staff are friendly and knowledgeable. It’s also nice they don’t gouge you on prices, my many other zoos. It’s easy to get around the zoo without getting run over by a stroller. If you’re a local, consider getting a membership, my wife routinely takes the kids just to get out of the house and walk around. They also have many events

Nice little downtown gem. The size is easily digestible, and the current collections presented, diverse and interesting. The staff is incredibly friendly and informative. From the sound of it, they change things up regularly, which makes it a great place to drop in often. There’s inexpensive, open air parking behind and across the street from the museum.

I cannot express how grateful I am to the amazing wedding event coordinators at the Akron Art Museum! Katie and Sarah are awesome and helped my husband and me plan the most perfect wedding ceremony. They were personable, kind, responsive, and SO helpful. We had our ceremony in the outdoor garden space and it was truly a dream. The inside of the museum is also beautiful and has great architecture for wedding photos. Everything about the experience was perfection. Aside from having our wedding here, we also visited the museum and enjoyed the beautiful artwork. I would recommend the Akron Art Museum to anyone!

The Akron Art Museum is calm, educational, and very fun if you enjoy art or just need something to do for the day. It’s full of photo potential for social media if you have an eye for that sort of thing. It’s also got a neat little gift shop and houses a wide variety of artworks to look at an examine. Some days are free to visit, making it all the more better.

Cool museum. One of the best places to walk. Has a nice gradual incline. Perfect mix between nature and city views. Walk far enough to see the bridge of women from around Akron. Go off trail to walk around downtown and have a drink. Nice walk to Locks 3 and 4. Short walk to the Civic. Ample parking.

I’ve been to dozens of historic homes and Hower House is one of my favorites. The home is unique and beautifully furnished. The volunteers that conduct the tours and run the gift shop are friendly and knowledgeable. The most outstanding feature for me though was that they offered chairs to sit on in almost every room, which was essential for my elderly mother to enjoy our visit.

Wish I could give zero stars. Self-guided is not truly that; the “monitors” literally follow right behind you, because according to one of them, they have to “keep an eye on people.” Almost thirty dollars to be treated poorly, followed around like thieves and to be yelled at by a “monitor” when we refused to listen to their guided tour even though we paid for a self guided one. Rich was apologetic and the only reason we stayed; he should interact with the public and not these monitors. We have taken self guided tours at much more ornate homes and have never been followed from room to room. The director excused the monitors behavior by saying some have more experience than others. Kindness and respect for paying customers doesn’t require any experience! Wish I could get my time and money back which could help erase the memory of a particularly horrible visit. After many years of visits, we will never come back.

Fantastic restored home. Volunteers are extremely helpful and knowledgeable.
There are so many things to see in the house. Love the details in the chandeliers. Some are gas and some are electric. A few are both! Plan on about 90 minutes if you go. That would be plenty of time to see it.
Well worth the visit. Close to downtown Akron.

Appreciate the Civil War chapel, which I visit with my family on Memorial Day to read the stories of sacrifices made and their significance. Amazing stories and also difficult to imagine. The whole cemetery is beautiful and this gem at the entrance deserves a visit. Read their stories in the pictures attached

Nice little urban park downtown Akron and right along the Towpath Trail. A pretty spot to stop and have some lunch or get away from the traffic for a minute. Civic Commons has been starting to hold events here and there is more planned for the future.

This is a great little train, but it’s almost more for transportation than an excursion – there’s no real commentary, at least not an official on. I stayed on the train from the Akron station to the end of the line and back, about 3 hours. Or you can get off at any of the numerous stations and then get picked back up on the return journey. On the way back, we did get a conductor that did give a bit more commentary, which was nice. I sat on the right side going out, which did seem to be more scenic, but I enjoyed swapping to an empty seat opposite for the return journey. The views aren’t as nice as some trains I’ve been on, it might be nicer in the fall.

I must say, this is such a fun experience. We did a 4 hour journey back and forth with some friends from out of town, and it was very enjoyable. The conductor on board was giving history throughout the ride. Plus, the train is very nice and air conditioned. Pretty awesome situation for kayak and bike too!

Its always fun to ride the Cuyahoga Valley railroad from Cleveland to Akron. The ride is smooth and the volunteer trainmen make the trip more interesting by pointing out landmarks along the way. There us an airplane type lavatory available as well as a snack bar.

This is a local Akron historic site worth going to!!! Very interesting history, beautiful homes, great guides, and artifacts that assist in explaining things from history that come to life. This is well worth the price of admission and your time there will go by very fast. If you don’t know about the local history here, I suggest that you give this a try.

A very interesting night. The mansion looked beautiful, just light from the Christmas trees and a few lamps. The mansion has so many instances of Paranormal activities. I would go again.

Interesting to learn about the original owners and their influence in the city of Akron. The buildings are kept cool in the summer. Volunteer staff are very nice, helpful and enthusiastic! I appreciate that they keep sheep on the grounds of “Mutton Hill” as a nod to it’s origins. The adjacent John Brown house increases the educational value.

I’m sure it’s very nice, but giving it 3 *’s because it’s not open for tours now.
And that is not noted on google or front gate.
Will edit this rating if we ever get in… April I guess.
